76: near misses

i've had a lot of near misses in my life.

my most recent one took place last month, in our local super-sized malwart. i was walking down a main aisle and as i turned the corner, i slid-walked into a puddle of unknown liquid.

talk about a shock to the system! my mind went into "what the hell?" mode and my body did a fight-or-flight, grab-at-the-air attempt to stop me from falling and breaking my ever-loving neck.

thankfully, i survived with all body parts and pieces in their original locations. however, i did feel a few aches and strains as i continued my shopping trip.

now, back in the day, i'd have cut the trip short with a call to my lawyer. but the older i get, the less time i have for such distractions. yeah, i probably could have got a nice lil hefty sum for my troubles. but i just didn't feel like all the bother. i had my grandma and my youngin' with me. i just wanted to finish gettin' my stuff then get the heck outta dodge.

and i was gonna do it too. then i got stopped as i headed to the register. apparently, a man had seen my strange dance and he came up and inquired about my health. then alarm bells went off. although i wasn't about to ring up my attorney and run off to the e.r., i realized i still needed to have my incident documented.

the gentleman said he was willing to sign his name on the dotted line as a witness and he was nice enough to get a manager for me.

we filled out all the paperwork (took about 10 minutes, during which time i was worried that my frozen items would defrost), i thanked the gentleman profusely, and we were all on our way.

i was thankful that God sent that man to prod me back into reality. who knows what kind of mess i could have been looking at later had i not taken time to dot the eyes and cross the tees?

so where ever you may be my guardian angel for that day, thanks again. your intervention may have saved me some very expensive medical bills. if nothing else, the worry over every little pain after the incident would have been enough to send me mad if i didn't have the benefit of having it all down on paper.
