hey y'all.
i didn't need to. thank you God.
but maybe i should have. that tetanus shot did a weird-y on me and i got my days and nights all mixed up.
the incident actually happened late night on june 18. by the time we left the hospital, it was early morning, june 19.
by june 20th, i was in the midst of some sort of delusional scenario that i know was brought on by that tetanus shot.
nausea and a bad headache kept me awake for a lot of the hours between then and saturday evening. when i did sleep, it was restless and full of strange dreams that seemed more like day dreams.
*** DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT IF YOU'RE EATING OR JUST HATE GROSS-OUT KINDA STUFF ***
i also spent quite a bit of bit of time in the bathroom, flipping a coin for toilet or trash can. (the toilet won.)
we are our own primary care physicians in most instances, especially those of us who don't have health insurance. we do (have health insurance) but in a family of 3, the co-pays can add up to a mortgage payment before you know it.
my follow-up care consisted of mega doses of vitamin C, spirulina, lots of water, very little food (the nausea, the nausea...), and lots of sleep.
my hand feels fine as long as i don't press my palm within a few inches of the teeny weeny incision. i was already having some problems with my right hand any way which i suspect is related to nerve damage.
it's been several months since i've been able to use my index finger to twist caps off water or juice bottles. there's just no strength there and the finger hurts sometimes too.
any way, i am thanking God for the lesson (which i'm still waiting to understand) and the subsequent healing. even though i don't know why, we were supposed to be in the E.R. that night.
grandma said it's good that it happened last week and not this one (because i have to drive this week, a topic for another post).
you're absolutely right grandma.

266: stress kills (a long one)
but not me cuz i'm still here.
hallelujah!
i've missed it here. but i've been taking a break.
it's not that any one thing was more hectic than any other thing at our house.
it was a combination of things actually: stress in months past, weird electrical happenings all around that seemed to be signaling me to take action of some sort, mr. bliss's subtle badgering (yeah, i know it sounds like an oxymoron) for me to perform my wifely duties, baby bliss being so mouthy (thanks to my mother for being the fairy godmother who bestowed that gift upon us), me wanting to do more crafty stuff and feeling like there was no time between doing laundry/home schooling/washing dishes/working from home/vacuuming/cleaning the tub/keeping up with routine maintenance on the car/making sure all the bills are paid on time...
in other words, there was a lot to do and only one of me.
last week, my body/mind/spirit said "enough!"
i had a small flutter of chest pain tuesday night. wednesday, as i was bending down to retrieve something from the floor, i had a HUGE pain. but it was in my back, closer to the middle, by my shoulder blade.
it felt like someone had stabbed me in the back with a dull, ginormous knife. it took my breath away. all i could do was cry. i tried to hold it in because baby bliss and i were home alone.
but i couldn't.
she looked at me and i saw my pain reflected in her face when she said, "mommy are you alright?"
i shook my head. then i snapped back to mommy mode. i asked her to hand me the wintergreen essential oil. cuz i thought it might help.
well, it didn't. so i asked for the arnica gel. that didn't help either.
i got online and looked up the symptoms of heart attack in women. cuz ya know, sometimes they differ from men's symptoms.
and sure nuff, there was something about pain between the shoulder blades.
and i was like, "oh shyt. i could be croaking here. let me get my tail to the doc." yes, my common sense said "hospital". but my heart said "doc's office".
my doctor's office is less than half a mile from us. and he's a great doctor. and i love his calm demeanor and the fact that he's holistic and an M.D.
i figured he could do an EKG in his office and give me a shot of something. cuz that pain was sooooo bad, i figured if i survived, surely there was something my doc could do right in his office that would make my body act like it was 'sposed to.
sometimes real life goes just the way we want. other times it only happens in movies and fairy tales.
sadly, there was no magic wand waiting at my doc's office.
he was sitting at the front desk on the phone when i got there. (thank you father-mother God.)
i told him i needed an EKG and bless him, he managed to talk to me and the person on the phone at the same time: his EKG machine was broken but he could examine me and if necessary transfer me to the hospital.
to make a long story short, when i heard the medics from the ambulance and fire truck coming
thru the door, my heart began galloping in escape-from-Freddy-Kruger mode.
in the ambulance, the young EMT said she needed to take blood and i almost stroked out. i don't like needles and for good reason. my veins are small and they like to party. my blood pressure sky rocketed. the EMT changed her mind. she decided to drive and let the older EMT (a very soothing man) take her place in the back with me.
he gave me baby aspirin and a nitroglycerin tablet. that nitro tablet is one very good argument for keeping your heart fully functional. my prayers go out to those who must take them. seriously.
when he said he still needed blood, i felt betrayed. i know it's his job but why on God's green earth would anyone think it a good idea to stick needles in a distressed person while riding in a moving vehicle?
i just don't get it. but i did get with the program. i convinced myself that it would hurt less if i gave myself a reiki treatment and called on God to personally get on the stretcher with me.
and it worked. God wrapped me in reiki's healing energy while i sang one of my favorite songs from church, "Blessing to the World" by Karen Drucker.
thankfully there was no pain. but that didn't stop my overworked brain from recalling every movie i've ever seen where the ambulance crashes on the way to the hospital.
the other drivers on the road seemed to be in another dimension. i could see them laughing and talking, celling while driving, seemingly paying no attention to the emergency vehicle as it passed. that we we were on a street that sees a huge number of accidents daily only added to my paranoia.
i was appalled. i always stop for emergency vehicles, even if there is a median in the road.
the paramedic couldn't get a vein to sit still after several sticks including one in the back of my hand.
after the looooooong two-mile drive, we arrived at the hospital. as i was being wheeled into the E.R., i saw mr. bliss rounding the corner in his hunk of junk. i was relieved to know that baby bliss wasn't still sitting in the doc's office waiting and afraid.
now pay very close attention to this part y'all. this is stuff i didn't know and wish i had.
the nurse who was able to get my blood started an i.v. (something i didn't know would happen.)
they hooked me up to all the bells and whistles to monitor my heart. aside from a plethora of irregular rhythms, PVCs, and drops in heart rate, everything seemed okay.
after the preliminary blood work checked out, the doc said he was ordering a CT scan.
oh. okay...
so we waited a while. then my arm began hurting at the i.v. site. the nurse said he couldn't take it out cuz i needed it for the CT scan.
huh?
i was too afraid to ask and i wanted it to be over so i could go home and sleep.
at some point, the nurse asked if i was allergic to anything (food, medicine, etc.). i told him my food allergies and he asked what kind of reactions i got. i forgot to mention my allergy to crabs (but not shrimp) and he didn't say that the dye they would inject for the CT is iodine-based.
i was tired and i'd been answering questions for about an hour. what was his excuse?
a different nurse took me to get the scan. she dropped me off in the hallway outside the door without so much as a "see ya later".
the guy who retrieved me (the scan tech?) was nice. and kinda cute. too young for me. if i was single, i mean.
he explained the procedure and told me the dye would make my arm feel "a little warm" and said i might feel like i had wet myself. he said i would hear a voice that would tell me to take breath and hold it but that it should be a shallow breath. etc. etc.
wellllllllllllllllll, if you are allergic to shellfish, be sure to tell it from the mountaintop. in light of what happened, i'm pondering a medic alert bracelet that says i'm allergic to shellfish.
the dye was not warm. it was hot. like i'd stuck my hand and arm in the oven. and i got nauseated and my breathing became, as they say, labored. and i thought i was gonna die right there. i felt like i was gonna pass out and choke on my vomit. seriously.
i couldn't call out and i couldn't keep still when the voice told me to hold my breath.
i thought they would notice. (they didn't.)
a different tech put me back on my bed and the cutie came out to wheel me back to the E.R. the first tech noticed my teeth chattering and offered to get me a blanket. cutie said, "i'll get it". and he did.
as he was wheeling me back to my E.R. cubby, he called me "mami". mmmmm... sexy... if i hadn't been so out of it, i would have gotten his number.
then we got back to the E.R. and there were baby and mr. bliss.
oops! ahem. yes, i had a family waiting for me. cutie greeted them with the utmost professionalism and bid me a compassionate farewell.
in my absence, my E.R. doc had been replaced by his replacement. she came in later to tell us that the scans looked okay. she followed with all the usual stuff about following up with my own doc, etc. then she left and the nurse who'd dumped me in the hall outside the CT door came in with discharge instructions.
she also removed my i.v.
OUCH!
30 minutes later (at lunch), my arm seemed sorer than it should be. i took off the bandage and ewwww. there was a small ugly egg growing on my arm. and it was starting to bruise.
at home, i sprang into recovery mode. i downed a glass of spirulina-laden juice to help remove the radiation (?) from my body. later i took arnica to help with the bruising and vitamin C to help with general healing. i also took some B after i checked online to see what might be going on with my arm.
can anyone say "phlebitis" and "thrombosis"? seems the two are commom after problems with i.v. and after i.v. removal. i also used warm compresses to keep the blood moving.
now, a week later, my arm is still bruised. it looks a lot worse but feels a lot better.
i did follow up with my doc. he saw me the next day. he said all the hard facts on my blood work haven't come back yet. he also said he's gonna schedule me for a stress test. (that's the treadmill one.) i've done that before but it's been years.
so that's what i've been up to y'all. it was kind of a nightmare while it was going on. but now it's over and i (almost) feel like it didn't really happen.
except that i know it did. and that's part of why i wrote about it here. so i won't ever forget that my physical health really does rely on my mental health.
sometimes i forget.
hallelujah!

185: my hair!
or maybe i should say "my scalp!"
a few hours ago, i thought i would scratch my scalp bloody.
i know it's not the "dirty scalp" itch cuz i washed my hair yesterday.
this is the "dry scalp" itch, the one i hate the most. i do NOT like putting anything oily on my scalp and it's been a long time since i've done it (or felt the need to).
i washed my hair with the same soap i've been using, although i recently bought a new batch from an unfamiliar source. maybe the ingredients have changed. or maybe i used the wrong soap...
i love auromere soap. it comes in two types: one for oily/blemished skin and one for dry/normal skin. i buy both.
i used the oily/blemished skin bar for my shower and shampoo. i guess i shouldn't have used it for the shampoo as my scalp tends to be dry.
:-(
my scalp was fine last night and is better now (after an hour of intense scratching). i think i am gonna have to put a lil sesame oil on my scalp after all. i'm afraid i'll be bald very soon if i don't.

167: iiiiiiiiiice creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam
this week's Crazy Hip Blog Mama Collaboration (formerly the Crazy Hip Blog Mama Carnival) is ice cream.
they said we could be creative and do something other than write about it. that would be cool 'cept i don' t have any pics of ice cream, people eating ice cream, the ice cream man, or any other ice cream stuff.
i don't have any funny ice cream stories either. or none that i can think of right off the top of my head any way.
so i'll just say i loooooooooooooooooove ice cream. but not all ice cream and not any ice cream.
and i'm a fan of banana splits. or just ice cream with bananas. i also like ice cream with nuts. or ice cream with nuts and cherries, hold the whipped cream, hold the sauces.
hey, i know! i'll just do an ice cream list.
here are my faves, in order from "most fave" to "i dig it".
i also like sorbet, sherbet, gelatto (every so often), and Tofutti's frozen desserts.
i don't eat ice cream too often. not cuz i don't like it. mostly cuz it's dairy and sometimes gives me a headache.
now i'm gonna scoop my way over to see what my sister Crazy Hip Blog Mama's had to say about ice cream. join me y'all!

160: i feel stupid. and hungry.
like, yeah, i know i shouldn't be eating this time o' morning but i'm hungry.
so i trotted over to the fridge at full speed, pulled out some leftovers and put them in the steamer. that was ohhhh, about 30 minutes ago.
i got back to my laptop and got lost in the web for a while. then i thought my vittles might be ready so i shimmied on back to the kitchen to check the pot.
guess what y'all? i forgot to turn the burner on.
i am not joking when i say i could cry right now.
but maybe it's a sign from God/Goddess/Universe cuz i had a massive 10-hour headache that only subsided an hour or two ago. my head now feels light and airy and i'm grateful.
i'm also hungry damn it!

125: i was gonna...
write about some stuff i did earlier but i'm too tired. my eyes feel kinda swollen (probably because i finally took my extended wear contacts out after over-extending the wear by a month or so. (i know, i know.)
the headache (yes, another one.) can be fixed with more water, i'm sure. i just hope my bedtime cookie snack doesn't backfire on me and make the headache worse. i would be eating the cookies while i type but i'm in the living room and my momma is here.
even tho she's sposed to be sleep, y'all know what they say 'bout every shut eye. add to that the fact that my daughter has been coming out here for the past hour saying good night. (she and my mother are sharing the princess suite.)
if my momma sees me eating lemon creme cookies this time of night (or any other time, really), i/we will never hear the end of the rant that will ensue: hydrogenated oils clog arteries, the sugar causes teeth to rot and bellies to pot, the dye plucks up something or other and it will all cause the immune system to shut down. or at least go haywire and cause a multitude of unsatisfactory trips to the primary care doc in search of an answer...
on another note, why the heck is this tickle bug stalking me?! (i think it's what some people call it a camel fly but i'm not sure cuz i always thought camel flies -- is it candle flies? -- were a lot bigger than this small thingie.)
so i thought it was one of those ugly flying brown beetles and i swatted it when it kept flying too close to my face. by the time i realized it was a tickle bug, i had beaten it down one time too many. now it can't fly but it can hop and jump. :-(
i'm sorry tickle bug. i didn't mean to maim you but you can't be flying all up in a sista's face. we don't play that where i come from.
and now it keeps hop-jumping onto my body parts. ewwwwwww!
g'nite y'all. i'm gonna get me some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's.
awww man! what the hell was that thump i just heard outside? hope it wasn't on my balcony. i'm too tired for drama.

107: hives! part deux
i took 2 doses of the remedy last night before i fell asleep on the couch.
i woke up around 3 and drank some peppermint tea (plain) then headed to the real bed.
i felt okay when i woke up this morning. no itching but my stomach was a bit on the sour side. (again!)
i drank another cuppa peppermint tea (with lemon and stevia this time) and ate a little bit.
the itchy feeling surfaced again so i took another dose of my remedy. the itching has subsided again, thank God. i think it's time for more detoxing but i really want a vanilla ice cream cone.
is it safe?!
well any way, we're headed to the pool for a lil sun and water. but i might betta sit in the shade. i don't think rashy people are sposed to sit in the sun.

106: hives!
grrrrrr!
a few hours ago i felt my face itching. i was paying attention this time so i knew it was the beginning of a hives attack.
last time this happened, i'd been up for about 36 hours straight and i ate something i shouldn't have. i was just about to go to bed when i felt my face itching. i was tired and sleepy so i didn't pay it much attention. i only wanted to finish up my project and get to a bed.
pretty soon my face was itching to beat the band. i stopped at a mirror on the way to bed and horror of horrors! my face looked red and whelp-y. um... okay... my skin is medium brown. red whelps were scary enough to make me cry.
i put a wet washcloth on my face but that only helped a bit. in fact, it made the itching feel... itchy-er, in a weird metallic way. (i still don't know what the hell that was about.)
i didn't get much sleep because every few hours the itching woke me up and had to get out of bed to re-wet the washcloth.
several hours later, my face looked like i had been in a boxing match with laila ali. my eyes were swollen almost shut and i was still itching. my grandma saw me and said, "oh my! what happened to you? you look like you been in a fight. you sure you ain't got wunna them computer viruses?"
(yeah, i know that's only kinda funny. but grandma meant that in the realist sense. she's pushing 80 and the only viruses she knows are the ones you see a doctor for. she doesn't understand that computer viruses only exist in virtual reality.)
so back to the rash at hand...
now a sista ain't pulled an all-nighter since the last time i wrote about it. but i probably did eat something i shouldn't have. i'm not sure what tho and that's the problem. it could have been any number of unknown ingredients in any of several things i ate today.
in fact, i was just reading the otha day bout a woman who almost died from eating applesauce. seems the applesauce had "natural flavors" as an ingredient. that "natural flavor" was cherries. the woman was deathly allergic to cherries and spent several days off work and months on medication related to complications from eating the cherry "natural flavors".
my body is getting more and more sensitive to "natural flavors" as i get older. i don't think it's age per se as it is the many years accumulation of stuff.
but back to the rash...
i'm taking a homeopathic remedy that seems to be helping a bit. but i also have a headache.
grrrrrrr!

99: cheerios with bananas
right now i have a taste for cheerios and bananas, a breakfast we used to cherish and chow down on as kids.
too bad i won't get to enjoy it today.
for one, we don't have any cheerios. for another, we don't have any bananas. even if we did, bananas usually give me a headache now so i don't eat them too often.
every so often i'll chop up one in a bowl of vanilla ice cream. maybe the gas i get from eating the ice cream cancels out the banana headache cuz that's the only time i can eat bananas with no problem.

97: piercings
i'm thinking about getting one for my upcoming birthday.
i thought about the belly button but heard that takes a long time to heal.
i thought about my nose but heard it's REALLY painful.
those are the only 2 locations i'd consider for new holes in my body so i guess i won't be getting it done.
i think nose piercings are cool and i love the look of a small hoop in the nose. but the thought of unnecessary pain is not a friendly one.
maybe i'll try a clip on for my nose.
just a thought...

89: my 2nd apple of the day
it was pretty good. :-)
and i've been drinking water too. smart water, which my daughter and i love. :-)
some people say there is no difference in the taste of bottled water and sink water, or in bottled waters. i beg to differ. there are several bottled waters that taste like the water from the city/municipal water plants that they come from.
i learned from a relative who works for a city water company. he told me that they sell water to a BIG name soft drink company that bottles the water then sells it. i've tasted that water and it is not on my top 10 list of choice beverages.
so of course i'm not saying that all bottled water is better for you than all sink water. i guess it just depends on where you live. and what you like.
on another topic, my headache is subsiding.
on still another note, i've noticed that my nails have been growing noticeably since i added the zinc supplement.

76: near misses
i've had a lot of near misses in my life.
my most recent one took place last month, in our local super-sized malwart. i was walking down a main aisle and as i turned the corner, i slid-walked into a puddle of unknown liquid.
talk about a shock to the system! my mind went into "what the hell?" mode and my body did a fight-or-flight, grab-at-the-air attempt to stop me from falling and breaking my ever-loving neck.
thankfully, i survived with all body parts and pieces in their original locations. however, i did feel a few aches and strains as i continued my shopping trip.
now, back in the day, i'd have cut the trip short with a call to my lawyer. but the older i get, the less time i have for such distractions. yeah, i probably could have got a nice lil hefty sum for my troubles. but i just didn't feel like all the bother. i had my grandma and my youngin' with me. i just wanted to finish gettin' my stuff then get the heck outta dodge.
and i was gonna do it too. then i got stopped as i headed to the register. apparently, a man had seen my strange dance and he came up and inquired about my health. then alarm bells went off. although i wasn't about to ring up my attorney and run off to the e.r., i realized i still needed to have my incident documented.
the gentleman said he was willing to sign his name on the dotted line as a witness and he was nice enough to get a manager for me.
we filled out all the paperwork (took about 10 minutes, during which time i was worried that my frozen items would defrost), i thanked the gentleman profusely, and we were all on our way.
i was thankful that God sent that man to prod me back into reality. who knows what kind of mess i could have been looking at later had i not taken time to dot the eyes and cross the tees?
so where ever you may be my guardian angel for that day, thanks again. your intervention may have saved me some very expensive medical bills. if nothing else, the worry over every little pain after the incident would have been enough to send me mad if i didn't have the benefit of having it all down on paper.

48: sick and tired
originally posted Wed., Nov. 01, 2006; 1:26 a.m. EST
i should be sleeping right now cuz i'm sick and tired.
but i'm up, surfing the web. sposed to be writing my to-do list for later today's activities but i haven't gotten to that yet.
it's cuz i'm sick and tired.
saturday morning i woke up with a sore throat. it felt like someone had slit it, on the inside. i felt better as the day progressed. but as evening crept in, my throat was hurting again.
my symptoms (of what, i don't know) have gotten alternately worse then better then bad again as the days have passed. i've been drinking teas (alternating peppermint, raspberry, rosehips and hibiscus, and cold care p.m.), hot water and lemon, garlic broth with honey, and emergen-c. i do feel a lot better than i did saturday morning.
what's bad is that when i get in bed, i'm waking up every hour or so coughing and choking.
when i wake up in the morning i feel like warmed over garbage. so i drink my drinks and eat more fruit. i've been coughing up a ton of phlegm (which is good because it means i'm not recycling the gunk by swallowing it, coughing it up again, and swallowing again, etc.) but i'm hoarse and my throat and chest hurt.
did i mention the headache i've had for the past two days? it's almost gone but tiny tremors of pain are still lingering around the edges like apparitions, dodging the herbal bullets i've been shooting. it was a bad one but i'm very thankful it wasn't a migraine.
i know the culprits: a less-than nutritious diet and sleep deprivation, among other things.
my bad.

24: near-death experiences
originally posted Mon., Dec. 05, 2005; 3:45 a.m. EST
i've had several in my life and believe me when i say not one of them has been as painful as the 2-day migraine i had this weekend.
i had my first migraine several years after my daughter was born. we were at the circus. i didn't have a clue as to what was going on. we were watching the tigers when some genius thought it was a good idea to start the smoke machines. my mild headache got exponentially worse and a huge wave of nausea engulfed me. we barely made it to the bathroom in time.
i was so ill, we had to leave the circus and take a taxi home. i thought i was dying. i was in bed for several days, trying not to see or hear anything. (note that although i wasn't married to my current husband, we were dating and by this time, my daughter and i had been staying weekends at his house for a year or two.)
over the years, i've learned my migraines are directly related to what i eat, how often i eat it, and any stress that's lurking. i've always believed that junk food (pizza, fast food, candy, etc.) kills, but since it does so slowly, it's been a back-and-forth battle for me to abstain all the time.
so there are times when i indulge and there are times when i overindulge. at times it's only the dairy foods that bother me. particularly blue cheese dressing. but once my body has become overloaded with stuff, any processed food can tip me over into migraine-land.
i'm no dummy. i know it's the Universe's way of telling me i need to get back to where i was. but it's hard to stay on the straight and narrow when those around you toss temptation into your path at every other step.
i'm talking about my husband.
when my daughter and i lived alone it was a lot easier to eat for optimum health. once my husband and i got married and my daughter and i moved to his house, i began fighting a losing battle.
my husband and stepson will eat anything in the fridge that ain't moving. they couldn't care less about the difference between organic and conventional foods, like i do. to them it's all the same so they'd gobble up my stuff (organic) then graze on theirs.
i got so tired of them eating my food that i began buying the things they swore they didn't eat. and guess what?
eventually i began hiding my food but even milk made from rice needs to be refrigerated after it's opened.
then it got to the point where i stopped buying a lot of "my" food and just ate it when i went out. then i got used to not having it most of the time, which has led to now.
my most recent migraine was the most painful of all. i believe father-mother God gives us warnings of things to come. the warnings start almost imperceptibly: dropping a bowl of ice cream on the floor cuz i had no business eating it any way; burning the frozen pizza i put in the oven cuz for real, neither my daughter nor i should be eatin' it cuz we had one this week already; accidentally putting a frozen apple pie in the cabinet instead of the fridge and having it go bad cuz, well, it's mostly sugar any way.
so now i have a choice. toe the line or keep getting those funked up headaches. this one was really bad. i'm saying it again because it's true.
i thought i had a brain tumor.
and me, who does not like prescription or over-the-counter meds (unless they're herbal or homeopathic), went to the ER. i felt like if i died suddenly it should be in the hospital, not here with my daughter trying her best to make me feel better.
admittedly, by the time we got dressed and outta here (6:30 a.m.) my headache was subsiding. but even in its wane, it was still pretty bad. i was still sensitive to light and sound, and my body ached like i'd been battered with a mallet. and i was still thinking it could be some kind of tumor.
my husband was all for the doctor giving me a shot of anything that would lessen my pain and i was in enough pain that i couldn't imagine bringing it back home with me. so i let the nurse give me a shot of something called imitrex. i need to look that up cuz i coulda swore that was for diarrhea.
at least the doc was nice. they all were actually.

3: tha weekend
originally posted Mon., Aug. 8, 2005; 4:24 a.m. EDT
i worked at a client's site friday evening and most of saturday. not physical labor but i was still beat when i got home. friday wasn't too bad. but saturday morning came too quickly. seemed like i had just gotten in bed and it was time to get up and outta here.
on another topic, my baby just doesn't know what to do when mama ain't home. i mean she's cool when she's hanging with her lil homies. but when mama wants to get outta here without her, to do MY thang, i get full-fledged drama. i love my lil pookie but can a sista get a break?! i'm "mommiiieeee" 24/7 and sometimes it feels like a life sentence. LOL
friday evening, fo' i left, i tole that lil miss not to call me less'n it was an emergency. and didn't she call to say she had eaten her apple and bananas and "what else can i eat mommy?" and didn't my 45-year old hubby call to tell me to "tell the baby to open her bedroom door" cuz people were coming to look at the house? and didn't i get several more calls from her lil tail asking what i was doing? what time i was coming home? could i bring her some food from waco bell? yes i sho did.
i did stay at my client's after i was done working, to run my mouth. by the time i left, i had been finished working for 'bout 45 minutes. i enjoy my client's company. she's cool. a dynamic sista who don't bite her tongue and don't take no mess off nobody. we need her for president y'all! '-)
work is only a 20 minute drive from home and i got here by 11 p.m. i'm sure i stayed up until after 1 a.m.
greeting the wee hours does it for me. there's something delicious about being up around 3 a.m., while most everybody else is snoring... i love seeing the tentative tendrils of daylight as they creep up to my kitchen window.
being up when the sun rises soothes me somehow.
getting up saturday morning at 8:30 was a testament to how much i love the work i'm doing.
the drive out was a breeze. it was a nice surprise because i really expected mucho traffic on that road on a saturday morning. but i'd expected the same for my drive out on friday in rush hour. didn't happen then either.
my client didn't have the air on and saturday was scheduled to really heat up. didn't bother me tho. as long as i'm not dripping with sweat, i can stand temps a bit warmer than most in summer. it's not the heat that bothers me, any way. it's the humidity i don't like.
sista-client and i chatted about work and personal as i began my projects; she left shortly after. alone, i settled into my get-it-done rhythm. a few hours later, i began to feel the effects of sleep-deprivation. i took a bathroom break, ate a few grapes and did a few stretches. i also felt a headache creeping in. possibly because i was sitting too close to the monitor.
my client returned a few hours later. even tho we talked a bit more, i actually finished my projects earlier than we'd anticipated.
tho i set my own hours, there's nothing like getting off work early on a weekend. if i was childless, i'd actually prefer working on weekends. i like working when most people aren't. something about shopping when others are at the office is a turn-on for me. also, i don't like crowds and i have a particular abhorrence for standing in long lines. it's all great incentive for being self-employed. '-)
my client told me one of my favorite brands of juice was on sale at the nearby market and i'd planned to stop in on my way home. but when i got in my car, it was soooooooooooo hot, all thoughts of going any where but home caught fire and fried in my head.
by the time i got home, my headache was in full effect. it felt like a migraine. i drank lots of water and a big mug of hot water and lemon juice. it didn't work right away and i felt like i'd feel better if i vomited (which i forced myself to do). then i laid down for a nap and couldn't sleep.
i told my daughter to tell hubby that i needed chicken noodle soup. the soup tasted weird. it was campbell's, a brand i like, but the noodles tasted like they were coated with something. maybe it was just me. or maybe it was wally world cuz that's where i got it from. i finally slept. (until 10 p.m.)
later i got a phone call from my godsister. i felt much better so i talked to her for a few hours. when my son came in exactly at curfew (surprise surprise!), i was still talking. it was after 3 a.m. when we rang off. my daughter came looking for me shortly after 6 a.m. she brought her pillow and sheet and camped on the couch while i completed some things online for our new house. (i love that virtual showroom!)
she and i watched a Bratz movie; hubby came down on his way to church and said we were invited to his cousin's for dinner. i knew i wouldn't make it. (nap time, ya know.)
i made cursory remarks as he left.
my daughter and i watched Garfield until i got sleepy. it was almost 10 a.m. by then. she went up with me but i'm not sure if she got in bed with me. i passed out a few seconds after my head touched the pillow. i vaguely remember her and hubby saying they were going to cousin's and they'd return for me before dinner. they called from there and i guess i sounded like a half-dead hag when i answered cuz no one came back for me. there was a plate waiting for me when i got up tho. that was nice of them.
on a more personal note, i'm looking for a day spa to luxuriate in. it's been a heck of a ride and i'm in need of rejuvenation! i have 2 in mind. both are new to the area. i'd heard of neither until i "found" them. both seem to cater to people of color; both are a few miles away, one about a 10-minute drive, the other about 15 minutes away. i need the works so this ain't gonna be cheap.
time for lights out. it's almost 4:30 and i got a lot to do later this morning. earlier than i would like...
