my hubby will be surprised that we got him father's day gifts this year.
he usually gets me some small stuffed animal and a card for mother's day and/or valentine's day and a card with an equally inappropriate gift for my birthday.
yeah i know, i know. he's doing his best and it's all done with love. but here's the thing: i have told him a gazillion times NOT to buy me gifts. in all the years i've known him (14), i can recall 2 gifts he's gotten me that i loved. one was a stephen king book and the other was a brooch that i've yet to wear.
i'm more of a practical person. please don't buy me any jewelry (cuz i've got lots already; the good stuff is locked away and the fun stuff i make myself). similarly, don't buy me anything to wear. i'm hard to fit and i have a style that's not always off-the-rack. shoes: ditto.
i like books, pencils, paper, pens, saline solution, essential oils, sesame oil, sea salt...
going out to eat is fun too but that's gotten to be terribly predictable over the years. paying lots of cash to take one's chances on getting a superbly mouthwatering meal is not my idea of a slamming birthday celebration. i'd rather just have cake and ice cream cuz truly, how many ways can you pluck that one up?
besides, dessert is my favorite part of most meals.
but here's a secret y'all. this year i'd really like to have a party for my birthday. i haven't had one since i was 16. however, i'm the organizer of the family so if i don't plan it, it won't be right. not that i'm a control freak (i'm learning to let go. i'm learning to let go. i'm learning to let go...) but who wants to go to a party where the planners have fixed everything according to what THEY like, birthday girl be damned? not i.
i had a wedding like that once. my ex's relatives just took it upon themselves to decorate the way they wanted, to hell with my wishes. they also ate a lot of the reception food before the WEDDING even started. food they did not pay for nor contribute to in any way. now how ghetto is THAT?!
but ooops! as usual, a sista done got all off the subject!
i was sposed to be tellin' y'all what we got my hubby for father's day, all at the urging of my daughter cuz i forgot i said i was gonna buy him a new wallet. (which i still might do...)
she picked out a nice belt cuz she was so thoughtful as to notice that daddy's belt is beginning to look trashed. she also picked out a beautiful plant from the market. it's a small tree thingie that i can't remember the name of now. it's very pretty and needs very little water (thank God).
still, i'll need to look it up online to be sure it gets its proper care. i'm bad with plants that need special attention. i have the bamboo (that aren't TRUE bamboo, tho everyone who has it probably thinks it is) and i have The Others. The Others are currently boarding with relatives cuz we never picked them up after we moved.
The Others are mostly carefree. but they're getting lots of care at the boarding house. i wonder what will happen to them when they get back here. we've already killed off a few plants (school projects) this year and last. :-(

How bout u start a wish-list for all occasions to make it easier for him to know wat u really want as opposed to "inappopriate gifts".
